Necessity is the mother of invention, or so they say. A few years ago I would never have seen much of a need for plastic liners for luggage and dresser drawers, but times are changing as fast as a bed bug can reproduce. It's it funny how my repulsion of insects trumps the desire for a greener earth. As long as bed bugs are a concern, "green" will have to take a back seat.
Lately, plastic has become my friend. I travel lots, and have been very concerned about picking up bedbugs on one of my trips and bringing them home with me. Though plastic luggage protectors and drawer liners are not the entire answer, they make a big difference in my peace of mind as I wander the globe.
So "how do these liners work?", you might ask.
When you arrive at your hotel, and after you have determined that your room is free of the signs of bedbug presence, it is safe to open your luggage and remove the liners that you have thoughtfully purchased and packed ahead of time. I don't recommend that you unpack your suitcase into a hotel room drawer, but sometimes a lengthy stay dictates you do. Take the liner, place it on the bed, unpack your clothes into the liner, zip it closed, and then place the liner in the drawer. Don't put the drawer liner in the drawer first. If there are any bugs in the dresser, they won't have any problem getting into an open liner, while you fill it with your clothing.
Now, whether your suitcase is empty, or full of clothing, place it inside the luggage protector, and zip it closed. when you need clothing, unzip the liner, take out your clothing and zip back up quickly.
For dirty clothing, keep a few dissolvable laundry bags, and strip off your clothing and place directly into the bag. Now you can place the laundry, clothes, bag, and all, into the suitcase, and zip it shut inside the luggage liner.
Even when you aren't traveling, these liners can have a multitude of uses. You can keep belongings safe when camping, keep out dust and mites if you have allergies, use them to organize your closet, store arts and crafts, or use them in school dorms or military barracks to protect your clothing and valuables.
Hopefully, with proper care and diligence, using these drawer and luggage liners, you too can remain bed bug free.
